CANDID INTERVIEW: Becca Tetzlaff of Organically Becca


When it comes to clean living and the best products in order to do so, Becca Tetzlaff is our girl! Tetzlaff developed Organically Becca in hopes of educating us on the not-so-safe products that we may be using in/on our bodies and have lingering around our homes.

As a fellow millennial with a passion for helping others, it was only right to have fun while getting candid with this influential woman. We talked about the one thing she could eat every day (hint: her first option isn't food) and what advice she would give other busy women struggling to find balance and trying to figure out their purpose in life. Enjoy!

Q: If any, can you name your top, non-negotiable health/wellness routine(s)?

A: During the week, my breakfast is a fruit & veggie superfood smoothie with supplements like collagen and Ashwagandha. I'm not really a big fan of salads so it's a great way to make sure I'm getting my fruits and veggies throughout the week!

Q: If you could eat one thing every day, what would it be?

A: That's a hard question! Does coffee count? I definitely have that daily. Otherwise I would say dark chocolate. I need at least a little bit every day!

Q: What are your top snacks and beauty items to pack while on the go?

A: For snacks, I love homemade granola bars and popcorn! And for beauty items, I always carry chapstick and either a lipstick or gloss in my purse. Lately I've been loving the Laguna Herbals SPF chapstick and Nudus lipsticks! I also usually have floss because I get paranoid about food being stuck in my teeth 😬 I also tend to carry deodorant in my purse because you never know when you need a little refreshing. I love the Bella Organics mini deodorants.

Q: What's your best piece of advice for women who are nervous or feeling overwhelmed at the thought of transitioning to non-toxic living?

A: It's definitely overwhelming once you start learning about chemicals and toxins in products and food. This is very general but don't feel like you need to throw out everything and start clean overnight. That is unrealistic and will stress you out! Make the transition slowly as you run out of products and do what your budget allows. It took me about two years to fully transition to where I'm comfortable.

Q: What's your ideal way to spend your "me" or self-care time?

A: "Me" time is very important to me, especially since I am an introvert and need to recharge after being around people. After work I usually take my dog for a walk and then during the evenings I love watching some Netflix with a glass of wine!

Q: What's one craving you always give into?

A: DONUTS! I cannot resist them. They are definitely my weakness. Thankfully there is a shop nearby that makes delicious donuts without preservatives or artificial colors, so I at least feel a little less guilty 😛

Q: What, if any, was the reason you got serious about the quality of food and what you put in/on your body?

A: I've always been into wellness and nutrition - I used to buy organic food knowing it was better but not really totally understanding why. I started doing the research and got a lot more serious about it. My husband, who strongly believes in eating organic food, was also my influence.

As far as makeup and personal care products - that started after I got serious about eating organic. I had pretty severe hormonal acne and was doing a lot of research around that. I wanted to treat the root cause and balance my body out. I was realizing that all the products I was using were likely making it worse - filled with toxins and chemicals that can alter your hormones. Since then I've been super careful about ingredients and trying to be as natural as possible! It has helped tremendously of course.

Q: Have you ever had a moment of, unintentionally, comparing yourself after being on social media or just life in general? If so, how did you redirect your thoughts into positive, affirmative ones?

A: YES! I love the community I've found on Instagram but at the same time social media can be really daunting because everyone puts their best self out there and you pretty much can't help but compare yourself to others. Especially being in the wellness space where you constantly see really fit women working out and making super healthy food all the time.

I just try to take a step back and say "okay, that is their life and not mine, plus who knows what they are struggling with behind the scenes" and that definitely helps. I am becoming more and more okay with not being perfect and try to share imperfections with my followers because we all deserve to see each other for who we really are.

Q: Do you have any advice for other busy women struggling to find balance and/or trying to figure out their purpose in life?

A: I have to admit that I am still trying to find total balance and purpose! But that probably never really stops. Just keep following what makes you happy and surround yourself with people that uplift you instead of bringing you down. Don't just follow the path you think you're "supposed" to follow, be courageous and try things that scare and intrigue you at the same time! If I stayed within my comfort zone, I would have never started my blog.

Q: Candid Health is all about authenticity. Can you share a moment in your life when you weren't perfect or as put together and how you reminded yourself that, "It's okay, I'm human"?

A: Hmm that sounds like my daily life! Haha. Like I mentioned earlier, getting stuck in the comparison trap has been hard. I see really successful bloggers and can't help but want to be more like them or wish my blog were as popular. But then I remind myself about how far I've come in just about a year and everything I've accomplished in that time. Especially since I also work a full-time job and blog after work and on weekends. We just have to give ourselves some grace and focus on all the good things we've done!
